"We have many success stories and Mary Jean is one of them..."
Mary Jean, a 37-year-old woman, has worked at the greenhouse for three years.
Although Mary Jean relies on the use of a wheelchair and a communication device, she is actively involved in greenhouse activities. Her favorite job is making potpourri, where she pulls the petals off the flowers, puts the petals in a basket and the stems in a can.
She enjoys the work as well as the smell of the flowers.
Another job that Mary Jean enjoys is the painting of clay pots. The greenhouse staff put the pot on a Lazy Susan so that Mary Jean can turn the pot as she paints it.
She also plants cuttings in flats to get ready for the growing season. She uses a pencil to poke the hole in the soil and then places the cutting in the hole and waters the flat with assistance.
Mary Jean enjoys the company of her coworkers, the staff and the many regular customers that frequent the greenhouse. Many of these customers know Mary Jean and stop to say hello as she is working.
Her enjoyment and satisfaction with her work is evident from her ever-present smile. |
